Complete Optical Gauging Service
Optical Comparator Charts convert basic optical projectors into efficient measuring
instruments at minimal cost, bringing a new dimensional control technique to production.
Using a projector, an enlarged image of the object to be measured is compared against a
comparator chart and measurement of this exactly amplified image is accomplished in a
variety of ways, suited to the inspection of one part or thousands.

RPD Precision Drawings have over 20 years
experience in the design and production of chart gauges and offer a unique service to the
world-wide industry. Our charts may be of standard design or a custom designed toleranced
outline of the part to be inspected.
We design and produce screens in glass, plastic or film. Choice of material or method is
determined by performance requirements and our optical engineers will work to your
specification or can advise on suitable systems. |
Standard Charts
From a library of precision scribed master plates, RPD provide a carefully selected range
of standard chart gauges to suit most engineering requirements and to fit most makes of
the projector.
There are two basic screen types: 1.
Replacement Screen - a direct substitute for the standard viewing screen. 2. Overlay Chart
- for use where frequent changes occur or where it can be used in conjunction with a
standard viewing screen.
Custom Charts
RPD have supplied thousands of custom made chart gauges for projects as diverse as
guidance system components to national coins. We can produce screens of any size, shape or
thickness to suit any projector.
| Custom chart gauges are tailored to specific
part inspection requirements. From your briefing we will produce a drawing, on approval we
manufacture the master plate then produce the final, actual-size screen by photomechanical
means, ensuring absolute accuracy and dimensional stability. The master is retained in our
library and we can produce exact duplicates whenever necessary. The master can also be
modified to accommodate component changes without total rescribing. |

Chart lines are fine and dense
black. Uniformity of line width and accurate spacing are achieved by special coating and
precision scribing techniques developed by RPD. Lengths, heights, angles, radii, fillets,
tapers, locations and diameters are gauged instantly.
